India's young batter Shubman Gill who was one of the standout performers during India's last Test tour of Australia got injured while fielding in the slips during the match simulation in Perth on Saturday (November 16).
As per TOI, the young batter has fractured his thumb and as per their sources Gill’s injury and the severity of it after scans. However, the opening batter will be part of India's squad for the first Test which is scheduled to start from November 22.
“Yes, Shubman Gill is injured and has fractured his thumb while fielding during the match simulation. He went for scans after receiving attention from the medical team and the scans revealed a fracture. He looks highly doubtful for the opening Test but should be okay for the 2nd Test,” the well-placed source had told TimesofIndia.com.
India are scheduled to play five Test match series against Australia and this series is important for Men in Blue to seal their spot for the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final. India need to win 4-0 in the five-Test match series to confirm their berth in the WTC Final which will take place next year in England.
Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 schedule
The series opener between Australia and India is set to begin in Perth from November 22 to 26. Next, the teams will head to Adelaide Oval for the second Test, a Day/Night match scheduled for December 6 to 10. The third Test will take place at The Gabba in Brisbane, running from December 14 to 18. The fourth Test is scheduled at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from December 26 to 30, and the series will wrap up with the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7.
