Rohit praised of the most successful spinner of all-time Ashwin, calling him an 'OG' and a 'legend' of both Indian and world cricket. He said that the Indian team would greatly miss his presence and contributions. The retirement of R. Ashwin marked the end of an era for Indian cricket. The decision came after the conclusion of the third Test match between Australia and India at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 18.
R Ashwin's sudden retirement left everyone surprised
R. Ashwin attended the press conference alongside Rohit Sharma. During the conference, he announced his retirement from international cricket. Ashwin described the decision as an emotional one but expressed his willingness to continue playing cricket at the club level.
Ashwin is undoubtedly one of the greatest cricketers to have represented India. He has left an indelible imprint on Indian cricket.

R. Ashwin's retirement announcement midway through the series came as a surprise to the cricketing world. While he participated in the Adelaide Test, he was replaced by Ravindra Jadeja for the Gabba Test. However, it was after the Gabba Test that Ashwin made the unexpected announcement, leaving everyone shocked.
Ashwin concluded his illustriour career as India's second-highest wicket-taker in Test cricket, having picked 537 wickets in 106 matches. Only Anil Kumble, with 619 wickets, is ahead of Ashwin's wicket tally.

Post Ashwin's retirement Rohit shared a heartfelt message on social media. He recalled all the time spent with Ashwin which he said he will cherish forever. He also said that Ashwin has left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. Sharma concluded by wishing Ashwin all the best in his future endeavors.
"We’ve played together for so many years and created so many memories which I’ll cherish forever. You’ve been a match-winner since match 1 & left a lasting impression on all the young bowlers coming through the ranks. I’m sure we’ll have a lot of upcoming young bowlers with the classic Ashwin action," Rohit wrote on his social media post.
