The unpredictable weather has plagued the entire match, with only Day 2 providing uninterrupted play. The remaining days have been marred by persistent rain showers, often leading to complete suspensions or early stumps. On Tuesday, December 17, just as the match was approaching the tea break, another drizzle began. Despite the relatively mild intensity of the rain, the umpires, Richard Illingworth and Richard Kettleborough, made the decision to send the players off the field.

This wasn't the first instance of rain disrupting the match and frustrating the players. On Day 3, both Mitchell Starc and KL Rahul were visibly annoyed as rain forced another halt to the proceedings.

When Australia just broke partnership between Nitish Kumar Reddy and Ravindra Jadeja, with Cummins dismissing the former, another rain break was taken which hindered hosts' attempt to wipe off India's tail. However, KL Rahul's resolute 84 and Jadeja's unbeaten 65 have kept India in the game.

India managed to avoid the follow-on on Day 4 of the third Test against Australia, reaching 252/9 when bad light forced an early end to play. After Rahul, Jadeja's exploits, it was the heroic last-wicket stand of 39 runs between Jasprit Bumrah (10) and Akash Deep (27) that sealed the deal. Despite this effort, India still trail by 193 runs.
