After the record-breaking rescheduled Test, the focus now shifts to the white-ball series starting July 7. Rohit Sharma's first assignment as captain in England will be a tough one. In the first T20I, India will be without the services of senior players Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja. In their absence, youngsters will get a chance to showcase their talent against the Jos Buttler-led side and start their preparations for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022.

 

Head-to-head

The two teams have gone up against each other 19 times. India have a slight edge over the English with 10 wins from 19 T20Is. The first-ever T20I clash between the two teams was in the inaugural T20 World Cup 2007 where Yuvraj Singh hit six sixes from Stuart Broad's over. The last time two sides played a T20I against each other was in March 2021 where England won comprehensively.

 

India’s first T20I series win in England

In bilateral T20I series, India registered their first series win on English soil in 2018 under Virat Kohli's captaincy. India won the three-T20I series by 2-1. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul's centuries were the highlight of the series.

 

India’s dominant run against England

In the last three-T20I series between the two nations, India have had the upper hand. Two of these T20I series were played on Indian soil. Last year, India won the five-match T20I series by 3-2.

 

Lowest totals

England's lowest T20I total against India came in 2012 when they were bundled out for 80 in T20 World Cup 2012 clash. India's lowest T20I total against England came in 2011 when they managed to score 120/9 in the one-off T20I.

 

Highest totals

The highest total for India against England is 224/2. In Ahmedabad last year, India posted a mammoth total with half-centuries from openers Rohit (64) and Kohli (80*). India have crossed the 200-run mark against England on four occasions. They chased down 199 in 2018 as well with Rohit scoring a century.

 

England's highest total of 200/6 against India came in the first ever T20I. In reply to Yuvraj's fastest T20I century, Paul Collingwood-led England put up a fight but lost the game by 18 runs.

 

Batting records

Kohli holds the record for most runs in T20I clashes between both sides. The former Indian skipper has scored 577 runs from 17 innings at an average of 44.38 including four half-centuries. For England, their new skipper Buttler has 373 runs from 17 games at an average of 33.90 including three half-centuries. 

 

Jason Roy has hit the most sixes (18) in these clashes whereas Kohli has hit most fours (56). The highest score belongs to KL Rahul, who scored an unbeaten 101 in 2018. For England, Buttler holds the record with an unbeaten 83-run knock.

 

Bowling records

Yuzvendra Chahal has the most wickets (12) from nine games with best bowling performance of 6/25. Chris Jordan has most wickets (10) for England from 11 games with best bowling figures of 3/22.
