'I'm fed up of watching him bat': England assistant coach's honest admission about record-breaker Shubman Gill
Shubman Gill after getting out for 161 in 2nd innings of Edgbaston Test, England's assistant coach Marcus Trescothick.

Story Highlights:

Shubman Gill registered most runs by an Indian batter in a Test.

Gill followed by 259 in first innings with 161 in the second.

England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick praised Gill.

In his second Test as captain, Shubman Gill led fron front with a double century and century in Edgbaston Test. Gill broke records and frustrated England bowlers who ran out of options to get the young batter out on a flat pitch prepared to favour English batters. After Day 4's play, England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick admitted that he is fed up of watching Gill even though he has batted brilliantly.

“Well, I’m fed up of watching him (Shubman Gill) bat, really,” said with a laugh to the BBC's Test Match Special. “As much as I like watching batters get runs. He has played brillaintly well, superbly well in both games, but in particular in this game here. Getting sort of 250 and then another 150, now that’s pretty special.”

Gill scored 269 runs from 387 balls in the first innings to help India post 587 runs on the board. Then, his 161-run knock helped India set a gigantic target of 608 for Bazballers to chase.

Trescothick continued to laud Gill as he said, “The volume of runs, not many people have done that, so you’ve got to admire his dedication, his concentration, his fitness and his skill level to come out and do it. So, it’s got to be well played."

While Gill broke legendary Sunil Gavaskar's record for most runs in a Test for India, the visitors have another chance to script history. If India win the second Test, they will register their first ever Test win at the venue.

Will England play for a draw?

England have already lost three wickets. With the new ball, Akash Deep struck twice to dismiss Ben Duckett and Joe Root whereas Mohammed Siraj got rid of Zak Crawley. With 536 more runs to win, Trescothick does not see draw as a bad result.

“Whenever the situation is changing, of course it is. When you get to the point that you can (only) draw the game, of course,” Trescothick said in the press conference after Day 4's play.

“We’re not stupid enough to [think] that you have to just win or lose. There are three results possible in every game that you play. But we have done some things in our time that are different to what we’ve done before,” he added.
