England dropped three catches in the first 15 overs of India's first innings

England assistant coach Marcus Trescothick was left 'frustrated' and 'disappointed' with the side's sloppy fielding display on Day 2 of Oval Test against India. After the hosts got bundled out for 247 runs, the Indian batters took the field for the second time in the match. Though the England bowlers continued to bowl some cracking deliveries, it was the fielders who let them down big time.

England dropped 3 catches during the day

The hosts ended up dropping three catches in the first 15 overs of India's innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal was dropped twice, first by Harry Brook on 20 and then by Liam Dawson on 40. It was due to these grassed catches that the left-hander went on to eventually score a half-century. Zak Crawley also dropped a sitter on the third slip to provide Sai Sudharsan with a major lifeline.

"You're always frustrated when you miss opportunities. Of course, we pride ourselves on being very good in those sorts of areas, but it just didn't happen. We all know how important they are and we all know how tough catches can be - especially in the slips - so [we are] disappointed, but it is what it is," Trescothick said at the post-day press-conference.

Despite being quite poor in the field during the Manchester Test as well, Trescothick feels that mental fatigue isn't the reason why England made sloppy mistakes.

"I don't think that'll be anything to do with it. It just happens over the course of some days and some games. It's just the game, as we see it," Trescothick stated.

Meanwhile, the second day of the Oval Test proved to be quite eventful as after having finished Day 1 on 204/6, India were only able to score 20 runs more before losing their remaining four wickets. In reply to the visitors' 224-run total, England started brilliantly with a 92-run opening stand between Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett. However, the rest of the batters weren't exactly able to provide stability to the side's innings as the hosts only managed to put up a total of 247 on the board, taking a slim lead of 23 runs.

Following this, the Indian batters took the field for their second innings and despite losing the big wickets of KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan, it was Jaiswal's unbeaten knock of 51 which saw the side wrap up the day on 75/2, leading the hosts by 52 runs. It remains to be seen how the things will develop on the much-anticipated third day of the Oval Test.
