India Test captain Shubman Gill has smashed 9th Test century during the fourth Test match of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 against England at Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. The stylish batter completed his century in  228 balls during India's second innings on the 5th day. This is Gill's fourth century in this series against England. Earlier, he had scored three centuries in the Leeds Test and the Edgbaston Test.

During the second Test match of the ongoing Test series, Gill played the biggest innings of his Test career, scoring 269 runs. However, his performance dipped in the third Test match at Lord's Stadium in London and in the first innings of the Manchester Test.

Gill, who was announced as Rohit Sharma's successor to lead India in whites, is doing captaincy duties in Tests for the first time. He is currently the highest run-getter in the ongoing series, scoring 715* runs in eight innings.

Gill, who came to bat after India's disastrous start in the second innings when visitors were reeling at 0/2, steadied India's ship and registered the record for the most Test centuries by an Indian batter in a single series in England. India have reached 213/3 after 83 overs, still trailing England by 105 runs. Gill has been joined by Washington Sundar, who has been promoted to No. 5 ahead of Rishabh Pant. Earlier, Gill and opener KL Rahul stitched a 417-ball partnership, before the veteran opener departed for 90.

Shubman Gill has become the first player to score four centuries in his first Test series as captain. Warwick Armstrong
Don Bradman, Greg Chappell, Virat Kohli, and Steve Smith scored three centuries each in their first series as captain. Gill also becomes the third batter after Don Bradman and Sunil Gavaskar to score 4 centuries in a single Test series as captain. Bradman did it against India in 1947/48, Gavaskar against the West Indies in 1978/79. And now Shubman Gill in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025.
