India's teenage sensation, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, is on the verge of a historic milestone after receiving his maiden senior national team call-up. However, the 15-year-old's first international assignment in England will come with a unique requirement, as he will reportedly be unable to use the same changing room facilities as his senior teammates.
The arrangement is not related to team selection or squad dynamics but stems from safeguarding protocols that apply to underage players participating in ICC-sanctioned events.
ICC safeguarding rules behind special arrangement
According to reports, Sooryavanshi will be required to use separate facilities during India's tour of England because of safeguarding measures designed to protect minors involved in international cricket.
The Bihar-born prodigy remains one of the most talked-about young cricketers in the game and could soon become India's youngest-ever international player if he receives a debut cap in the opening T20I against Ireland in Belfast.
The special arrangement comes as the International Cricket Council's safeguarding regulations are active throughout the tour. Since Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is only 15 years old, additional procedures are being implemented to ensure compliance with the governing body's guidelines.
An England and Wales Cricket Board spokesperson confirmed the role of ICC regulations during the series.
"This is an ICC event, with their safeguarding procedures active as they have jurisdiction. A safeguarding concern occurring during the event may, in some circumstances, be managed by the ICC," ECB told The Guardian.
The measures are standard protocol for underage participants and are aimed at maintaining player welfare throughout international competitions.
Youngster eyes place in history books
While the off-field arrangement has attracted attention, the primary focus remains on Sooryavanshi's potential international debut.
India is scheduled to play two T20Is against Ireland before beginning a five-match T20I series against England. Should the teenager feature during the tour, he would surpass several notable names in Indian cricket history.
