India made a bold statement ahead of the second T20I against England by dropping out-of-form opener Sanju Samson and handing a debut to 15-year-old sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Moments before the toss at Old Trafford, television cameras captured Samson in a serious, animated discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir on the field. The veteran batsman stood with his hands on his waist, absorbing what appeared to be a mix of tactical explanation and consolatory feedback from Gambhir following his exclusion.

Gambhir's tense chat with Samson goes viral

The selection call follows a string of low scores for Samson, who failed to capitalise on his opportunities as the primary opener across three consecutive matches against Ireland and England. With the management losing patience over his lack of consistency, they have opted for a fresh dynamic at the top of the order for tonight's clash in Manchester.

Samson’s omission comes on the heels of a rough patch where he managed just 6 runs across three innings: scoring 5 and a duck against Ireland, before being dismissed for a single run during the series opener in Durham against England. This prolonged slump at the top of the order served as the primary catalyst for the team management to pivot to youth. In doing so, they handed a historic debut to 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. With this selection, the young batsman sensationally broke Sachin Tendulkar’s decades-old record to become the youngest player ever to represent the senior Indian men's team, a title Tendulkar held since debuting at age 16.
