Yuvraj Singh advocated for clear communication regarding Kohli and Rohit's ODI futures

Right after Yuvraj's remark, Rohit cracked a phenomenal ton in the third ODI against England

former Indian all-rounder and World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh weighed in on the intensifying speculation surrounding Rohit Sharma’s retirement and Virat Kohli’s future for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Speaking during the mid-innings broadcast, the legendary cricketer strongly advocated for the retention of India’s two premier batting stalwarts. He emphasized that the national team heavily relies on their seasoned expertise during marquee global tournaments, warning that a squad comprised entirely of younger talent would lack the necessary composure for high-pressure events.

Yuvraj Singh sounds the alarm on India’s lack of clarity for RO-KO

Yuvraj urged the team management to provide immediate clarity and selection security to both Kohli and Rohit as they build toward the next World Cup cycle. He also took a direct swipe at the media for amplifying scrutiny the moment the veteran duo experiences a dip in form. According to Yuvraj, a balanced squad requires a strategic mix of youth and experience rather than an overreliance on either extreme. He advised the team to completely tune out the external noise regarding age and form, insisting that management must firmly back the veterans now to ensure a stable tournament preparation.

What Rohit, Kohli have done for India is unmatchable: Yuvraj

Former World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh emphasized that the Indian team management owes complete transparency to Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli regarding their futures in the ODI format. Acknowledging their massive stature as the most experienced players in the squad, Yuvraj urged the leadership to have direct conversations with the duo. He noted that if the selectors intend to take the veteran pair to the next World Cup, they should assure them of their spots immediately to eliminate any lingering anxiety. Conversely, if management feels a player no longer fits into the long-term blueprint, Yuvraj believes it is vital to deliver that hard truth directly, asserting that a senior cricketer will ultimately appreciate upfront honesty over uncertainty.

"Have clarity with your most experienced players. Virat and Rohit, what they have done for India is unmatchable. It's unbelievable the number of hundreds they have scored, the games they have won for India, what they have contributed to the field as players, as captains, it's unmatched. But you need to have clarity with your seniors,” Yuvraj said while speaking on Jio Hotstar.

Highlighting the unparalleled legacy of the two modern greats, Yuvraj praised their unmatched contributions, pointing to their staggering number of centuries and match-winning performances both as players and captains. Amidst these external discussions, both batsmen are currently out on the field in the high-stakes series against England. While Kohli already showed glimpses of his trademark rhythm with a half-century in the second ODI—albeit in a losing cause, Rohit has entered the series finale eager to quiet the critics, showing positive intent early in his innings after a brief lean patch.

Rohit did exactly the same with his roaring century 138 off 110 riding on five sixes and 17 fours at a strike rate of 125.45.
