Story Highlights:

Abhishek Sharma needs two sixes in his next 36 balls to become the fastest batter to 100 T20I sixes.

The Indian opener is also set to become only the fifth Indian with 100 sixes in T20 Internationals.

India will lock horns against Ireland in the second and final T20I of the series on Sunday, June 28 at the Stormont in Belfast. If India's star batter Abhishek Sharma opens in the second game, then he could have a big shot at breaking a big world record in the shortest format of the game.

Abhishek Sharma can break world record in T20Is

If Abhishek Sharma manages to smash two sixes within the first 36 balls of his innings, then he will become the fastest batter in the history of T20Is to reach 100 sixes.

Abhishek Sharma is on the verge of scripting history in T20Is. The star Indian opener has managed to hit 98 sixes from just 775 balls in his T20I career so far, leaving him only two maximums away from the 100-sixes milestone.

At the current point of time, Austria's Karanbir Singh holds the record of being the fastest to hit 100 sixes. Karanbir managed to achieve the feat in 813 balls. If Abhishek manages to hit two sixes in the next 36 balls, he will become the fastest to achieve the feat.

Fastest batters to hit 100 sixes in T20s:

Player Country Balls Taken
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi India 515
Karanbir Singh Austria 813
Kieron Pollard West Indies 843
Romario Shepherd West Indies 845
Seekkuge Prasanna Sri Lanka 850
Rahkeem Cornwall West Indies 850

Whereas, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi currently owns the overall record for being the quickest batter to hit 100 sixes in T20 cricket. The 15-year-old opener, who is in line to make his international debut on Sunday against Ireland, completed the milestone in just 515 balls.

Rohit Sharma stands tall

Two sixes from Abhishek in the second T20I against Ireland will see him join an exclusive list of Indian batters with 100 or more sixes in T20Is. In a scenario of him completing the 100 sixes, he will become the fifth Indian batter to achieve the feat, joining Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

Former India skipper, Rohit remains at the top spot as the batter with most maximums in the history of T20Is, with the help of 205 sixes in just 159 T20Is.
