India's opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have seen their T20I rankings skyrocket following their impressive performances in the series win against Sri Lanka.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill make big gains in T20I rankings
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill's scintillating batting was instrumental in India's 3-0 whitewash of the hosts. India's dominant 3-0 T20I series win over Sri Lanka has propelled several players up the ICC T20I rankings. The series, which culminated in a thrilling Super Over victory in the final match at Pallekele Stadium, saw India secure comprehensive wins in all three games.
Jaiswal and Gill continue their upward trajectory in T20I rankings. Following India's T20 World Cup victory, both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill have cemented their positions as formidable opening batsmen. Jaiswal's blistering strike rate of 177.78 has propelled him to the fourth position in the T20I rankings, a two-spot jump. Gill has made an even more significant leap, climbing 16 places to reach the 21st position with a career-best rating of 613. Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav, who was leading Team India in the just-concluded T20I series, continues his stay on no.2 in the ICC's T20I batting rankings followed by Numero Uno Travis Head. Another Indian batter who is in top 10 is Ruturaj Gaikwad. Gaikwad is one behind England's T20I captain Jos Buttler in eighth spot. However, Gaikwad wasn't part of India's T20I series against Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Ravi Bishnoi's impressive performance in the Sri Lanka T20I series has earned him a significant boost in the bowling rankings. The Indian spinner has climbed eight spots to become the top-ranked Indian T20I bowler, currently holding the tenth position. Adil Rashid maintains his position as the world's number one T20I bowler. South Africa's Anrich Nortje grabs the second spot followed by Afghanistan's Rashid Khan and Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga in the third and fourth place.
India's pace attack has also seen a surge in rankings. Arshdeep Singh, who was also part of the India's T20 World Cup 2024 title triumph, has moved up four places to number 19, while Washington Sundar and Mohammed Siraj have climbed six and thirty-seven spots respectively to reach the 40th and 47th positions.
