There was no rain and the sun was out in Guyana as Indian fielders walked out to the middle for the third T20I at Providence Stadium. The match was all set to begin but before a ball was bowled Indian fielders and West Indies openers walked out of the ground due to a bizarre reason. As it turned out, the game was delayed because the ground staff forgot to mark the 30-yard circle.
The ground staff rushed to the ground to mark the 30-yard circle. Similarly, earlier this year, Pakistan vs New Zealand 2nd ODI was halted when umpire Aleem Dar noticed that the 30-yard circle has not been marked properly at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
Ravichandran Ashwin was quick to take a dig at the West Indies Cricket Board via his Twitter account as he tweeted out: “Unique delay! It’s not an easy place to tour for reasons like this. As a cricketer one has to be switched on all the time and always expect the unexpected.”
Earlier on the tour, India’s stand-in ODI skipper had criticised the management over travel arrangements in the post-match presentation after India’s thumping 200-run win in the decider.
"This was one of the nicest grounds we have played. Things can be better when we come to West Indies next time. Things like travel, hopefully the West Indies cricket board can take note and ensure that there are no hiccups. We don't ask for luxury but we need some basic necessities taken care of," said the all-rounder.
Ashwin had supported Pandya and shared his experience during the two-Test series against the Kraigg Brathwaite-led side.
“We played at the Barbados Test Center. While we practiced in the nets, there was no grass left on the surface. Their nets looked too old. I am not saying these things to blame them or anything. I actually feel bad for them,” Ashwin had said on his YouTube channel.
