It was an especially brilliant performance from Ravichandran Ashwin in the first Test against the West Indies, who suffered a massive innings and 141-run victory in Roseau, Dominica, on Friday, July 15. He finished with 12 wickets — five in the first innings and seven in the second — as India bundled out their opponents for just 280 runs across two innings.
With so much done by the all-rounder, we take a look at the many records that he broke after his exceptional bowling.
8 - The off-spinner has eight 10-wicket hauls in Test cricket, which is the joint-most for an Indian right next to Anil Kumble. There are only four other bowlers with more 10-wicket match hauls in Tests than the Indian spin duo.
34 - He is now only one behind Kumble's 35 five-wicket hauls in Tests. Ashwin also now comes in fifth for the most five-wicket hauls in Tests, joint with Rangana Herath.
6 - This is the sixth Test that the bowling all-rounder has taken five or more wickets in both innings. Only Muthiah Muralidaran (11) and Herath (8) have done it more than Ashwin, while Englishman Sydney Barnes had five-fors in both innings on six occasions.
7 for 71 - Ashwin's figures in the third innings is now the best figures in Test cricket for an Indian in the West Indies. He bettered his own 7 for 83 in Antigua during their 2016 tour. Only Ishant Sharma (10 for 108 in the 2011 Bridgetown Test) had a ten-wicket match haul in the West Indies before Ashwin's 12 wickets.
12 for 131 - Ashwin's match figures in Dominica are the fourth-best for a bowler in a Test match in the West Indies. His figures are the second-best for a spinner in the Caribbean, just behind Tony Greig, who took 13 for 156 with his off-spin in the Port of Spain in 1974.
23 - The Dominica Test was also the 23rd Test in which Ashwin has taken the match-winning wicket. This is the most for any bowler in Test cricket, surpassing Shane Warne's 22.
