Deepak Chahar returned to the field in style after a hamstring injury sidelined him from international cricket for six months. Chahar got the new ball talking and took down Zimbabwe’s top-order single-handedly to help India register easy 10-wicket win. However, Chahar is not sure that he will be able to make it to India’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad.
“I can't say if I will be selected or not as that's not in my hands but skill wise I have worked very hard,” Chahar told the reporters after KL Rahul-led India’s easy win. "I think I have picked up from where I had left and today also barring first two overs, I bowled well. I bowled seven overs at one go which is an indicator that my fitness levels are okay.”
Having found his mojo back and also getting the ball to swing both ways appreciably in the morning session, Chahar revealed that the plan was to bowl fuller length deliveries.
Deepak drew Zimbabwe top-order batters forward and swung the ball both ways to get their wickets. He revealed the plan he had for the hosts in series opener.
"My plan remains simple, when the ball is swinging try to bowl fuller length and take wickets. If the ball isn't swinging, then there is a plan 'B' or 'C'. Today, it was swinging till the seventh over that I was bowling. So it was simple -- bowl a fuller length and mix the swing and confuse the batter," he said.
"There isn't any turn on offer or neither anything for fast bowlers in particular. The only help you get is in that in the morning session and if you play that session well, then obviously the game goes well,” the 30-year-old added.
The bowling all-rounder is not a part of India’s Asia Cup squad. However, he will travel with the team as a standby player. With Harshal Patel injured, there were a few reports that Chahar can be included in the Asia Cup squad but Avesh Khan was picked over him. Earlier, Chahar also said that he was fit for the West Indies series but wanted to be 100 per cent sure about his fitness before returning to international arena.
