Having suffered back-to-back series sweeps against Ireland (0-2) and England (0-4) on their tour of the UK, India bounced back strongly to claim a 2-0 series win over Zimbabwe with a match to spare. For skipper Shreyas Iyer, this milestone victory marks his first series win as captain.
India clinch series with 90-run win over Zimbabwe in 2nd T20I
India posted a big total of 219/5, thanks to Kishan's 81 and Tilak's 60. In reply, Zimbabwe were folded for mere 129. Yash Thakur and Prince Yadav two wickets apiece. However, Prince's night ended prematurely. The team faces a potential injury concern after he pulled up with a hamstring issue just eight balls into his spell and was forced to leave the field. To cover the remaining overs, captain Shreyas Iyer turned to part-timers Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, a tactical move that paid off as the duo shared four wickets between them to seal a dominant performance.

Earlier, sent into bat, India endured a shaky start, losing early wickets to find themselves in trouble at 29 for two. Blessing Muzarabani got Abhishek Sharma to softly chip a catch to Ryan Burl at point, while Richard Ngarava cut short Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive start (20 off 9 balls) with a sharp, rising bouncer. Unfazed by the top-order wobble, Ishan Kishan stepped up to steady the ship, first stitching together a 66-run partnership with captain Shreyas Iyer (25) to lay a stable foundation.
Kishan’s knock was a masterclass in pacing a T20 innings. After bringing up a steady 31-ball half-century, the left-hander unleashed an aggressive assault, blasting his next 31 runs in just 13 deliveries. Targeting the leg-side with authority, he repeatedly cleared the ropes toward mid-wicket, taking apart off-spinner Brian Bennett for consecutive boundaries and punishing pacer Brad Evans with a flurry of hits to power the innings forward.

Partnering Kishan in a damaging 94-run stand, Tilak Varma silenced recent chatter surrounding his strike rate with a fiery, unbeaten 60. Reaching his half-century off just 23 balls, Tilak blended delicate touch—dabbing Muzarabani past point—with brute force, including a massive mid-wicket strike off Evans. Their relentless late-overs blitz yielded 61 runs off the final five overs, steering India to an imposing total of 219/ 5, which was too much for Zimbabwe to chase.
Zimbabwe's deflated chase
Zimbabwe’s chase got off to an explosive start behind Brian Bennett, who attacked Indian pacers Yash Thakur and Mayank Yadav early on. However, Thakur struck back in the fourth over to claim his maiden international scalp, dismissing the dangerous Bennett for a quickfire 32 off 19 balls to leave Zimbabwe at 34/1. From there, the hosts tumbled rapidly. Prince Yadav removed Ben Curran (1) in the fifth over, and Ravi Bishnoi soon sent Dion Myers packing for 12, leaving Zimbabwe reeling at 49/3 by the end of the powerplay.
Prince Yadav delivered another huge blow by dismissing Sikandar Raza for a duck, reducing the opposition to 49/4. Disaster struck immediately after, as the pacer pulled up with a hamstring injury and had to hobble off mid-over. Shivam Dube stepped in to finish the over—conceding two boundaries to Ryan Burl—before returning in the ninth over to remove Wesley Madhevere for 2. By the halfway mark, Zimbabwe were staring at defeat at 69/5.
Spinners wrap up the tail
The procession of wickets continued as Tilak Varma dismissed Burl (20), thanks to a brilliant diving catch from Rinku Singh. Despite a brief counter-attack by Brad Evans that pushed Zimbabwe past the 100-run milestone, part-timer Abhishek Sharma broke the partnership by removing both Evans (19) and Newman Nyamhuri (3).
Yash Thakur then returned to clean up Tadiwanashe Marumani (24), before Abhishek (3/17) wrapped up the innings by removing Richard Ngarava for 1. Zimbabwe were bundled out for 129 in 17.5 overs, with Abhishek, Thakur (2/30), and Prince Yadav (2/10) starring with the ball for India.
