Tahlia McGrath-led Australia women's cricket team defeated Harmanpreet Kaur's India by a massive margin of 122 runs in the second ODI of the three-match series which was being played at the Allan Border Field in Brisbane, on December 8 (Sunday). The Aussie women have clinched the series with this victory and are leading 2-0. Georgia Voll and Ellyse Perry were the show's stars with their astonishing hundreds and later Annabel Sutherland's performance with the ball sealed the deal for the hosts. Ellyse Perry won the Player of the Match for her knock.
Voll and Perry wreak havoc
Australia got off to a stunning start after Phoebe Litchfield and Georgia Voll joined a 130-run opening partnership and put their side in the driver's seat. Saima Thakor got Phoebe's wicket, who returned to the dugout after scoring 60 runs. However, before India could even enjoy the breakthrough, Ellyse Perry walked in. Perry joined another 92-run stand with Voll, who completed her century before getting out against Saima Thakor.
India once again failed to capitalise on the breakthrough as veteran Beth Mooney joined Perry in the middle and both of them added a 98-run partnership to increase the visitors' misery. Perry got out after scoring 105 runs but she had already done her job. Beth Mooney eventually got out after scoring 56 runs. All top four of the Aussie batters scored fifty-plus, with two of them hitting tons. Saima Thakor got three wickets, and Minnu Mani settled with two. Meanwhile, Renuka Singh, Deepti Sharma, and Priya Mishra got one each.
India suffer another brutal defeat
India had a massive target in front of them and they lost the big wicket of Smriti Mandhana by the fourth over itself after Kim Grath who cleaned her stumps up with a stunning delivery. India failed to build a partnership at any point apart from a 66-run stand between Richa Ghosh and captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Ghosh was also India's highest run scorer with 54 runs.
After her, Jemimah Rodrigues (43 off 39) and Minnu Mani (46 not out) did play some crucial cameos but they were just not enough to put the Indian team over the line. Annabel Sutherland picked up four wickets. Meanwhile, everyone else settled with one wicket each. Now the next and final ODI of the series will be played at the WACA ground in Perth, on December 11.
