The clash between Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium proved that T20 is a batter's game after all. It turned out to be a six-fest in the end where the economy rate of nine runs per over was considered golden. Even after posting a record-breaking total of 277/3, SRH could not rest on their laurels and had to fight it out to beat the visitors.
Here is a list of records created in SRH vs MI clash –
Highest innings total in IPL
Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen’s half-centuries helped SRH post 277 for three wickets. This is the highest total in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The previous record belonged to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). They posted 263/5 against now-defunct Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013.
Highest IPL total in run chase
MI batters were up to the task as well. They got off to a blazing start. In the middle overs, Tilak Varma led the run chase. In the end, it did not turn out to be a last-over thriller as SRH pacers turned the tide. MI managed to post 246/5 which is the highest second innings total in IPL. The previous best was Rajasthan Royals' (RR) 226/6 against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in a winning cause in IPL 2020.
Highest aggregates in IPL and T20 history
SRH and MI combined to score 523 runs in the match. This is the highest aggregate in men's T20 cricket history. The previous best was 517 in the clash between South Africa and West Indies last year. In the IPL, the match between Chennai Super Kings and RR saw 469 runs being scored. It took place in the 2010 edition of the IPL.
Most sixes in a T20 match
A total of 38 sixes were hit in the carnage-filled match. Interestingly, MI batters hit 20 sixes, two more than SRH. This is the most sixes hit in an IPL game. The previous best was 33 in an RCB vs CSK clash in IPL 2018. In T20 history, 37 sixes was the previous record. It happened in an Afghanistan Premier League (APL) 2018 match between Balkh Legends and Kabul Zwanan.
Highest boundary count in an IPL match
38 sixes and 31 fours were hit in the record-breaking clash. SRH and MI equalled the record created by CSK and RR in IPL 2010.
