Riyan Parag’s old tweet went viral after his fiery 84 against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.

Parag faced criticism and trolls for the last few seasons due to his poor performance.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) all-rounder Riyan Parag delivered an impressive batting performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 fixture on March 28. Parag’s unbeaten knock of 84 runs off 45 balls helped RR beat DC by 12 runs. He also smacked seven boundaries and six sixes in his match-winning knock. His knock took RR to a fighting total of 185/5 which was sufficient for them to overpower DC.

Parag's old tweet goes viral

After his sensational performance, his one-year-old tweet went viral. Before IPL 2023, Parag took to X (Formerly known as Twitter) and wrote, “My inner conscience says i’m hitting 4 sixes in an over at some point this IPL..”

The Assam-born cricketer was often criticised for his lacklustre performances in the last IPL season as he failed to live up to expectations last year. But, this time Parag comes to IPL with a strong form and it won’t be a surprise if he manages to smash four sixes in an over at some point. In his very first match of IPL 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), he blasted a quickfire 43 runs off 29 balls to help RR gain momentum in the middle overs.

'I've had to work very hard for the last three days'

After the match, 22-year-old Parag revealed he was sick and had been in bed for the last three days. He had to take painkillers to play against Rishabh Pant’s DC.

"I've had to work very hard for the last three days. I was in bed, I was sick and I just got up today with painkillers, etc. and I could still manage today. So I'm really happy for myself," Parag said at the post-match presentation.

For the massive turnaround, Parag credited his domestic success. His explosive performance against DC took him to the second spot in the list of leading run-scorers this season. He is just behind Heinrich Klaasen who has racked up 143 runs.

"I know what my opinion is about myself, and no matter what anyone says I don't let that change. And that has never changed. Regardless of whether I'm performing or not, even if I got a zero today, that opinion was never going to change. I think that has a lot to do with the type of season I've had as well. I think you get a lot of confidence from getting runs in the domestic season," Parag added.
