Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered their second defeat on the trot after 12-run loss against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 clash on March 28. RR posted 185/5 on the board, thanks to spellbinding knock from Riyan Parag, who cracked a phenomenal 84 off 45 riding on seven fours and six sixes. In reply, Rishabh Pant's men did manage to take the match to the wire, but eventually came crashing down in the end.
Rishabh Pant not happy with DC's dismal show
Meanwhile, DC skipper Pant was left disappointed after team's dismal show, however still upbeat about comeback in the coming matches. Pant believes the best DC can do from here is to learn from their mistakes.
“Definitely disappointed. Best thing we can do from this is learn from it. The bowlers did really well till 15-16 overs, batters sometimes go on at the death and score quickly, that happened in this game. Marsh and Warner gave a good start, but we lost a few wickets in the middle overs and in the end we had too many runs to cover up. There are other options, we wanted Nortje to bowl at the death and sometimes you can go for runs, hopefully we can do better in the next match,” Pant said during the post-match presentation.
In pursuit of 186, DC ended their innings at 173/5, despite Tristan Stubbs' spirited 44 not out from 23 balls, keeping hopes alive until the last over, which required 17 runs. Avesh Khan's tight bowling in the final over, allowing just four runs, ensured RR clinched their second win in a row.
Key contributions with the ball from Nandre Burger and Yuzvendra Chahal, who each took two wickets, were instrumental in securing the victory for RR. Pant could only score 28 off 26 before perishing to Chahal in the 14th over.

Riyan Parag's batting blitz powers RR's victory
Meanwhile, the architect of RR's win was Riyan Parag, who demonstrated his exceptional talent with a spectacular unbeaten 84 from 45 deliveries, propelling his team to challenging total of 185/5. Despite a sluggish start that saw RR struggling at 36 for 3 in the eighth over, 22-year-old Parag took charge, leading his team to a formidable total. His outstanding innings featured seven boundaries and six maximums. Elevated to the fourth spot in the batting order this season and building on his 43 in the last game, Parag unleashed on Anrich Nortje in the closing over, amassing 25 runs to secure his highest T20 score yet.
DC will next face defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 31 in Vizag.
