IPL 2024: Big boost for MS Dhoni's CSK as star overseas pacer leaves for India one day after giving major injury scare by collapsing on the field

A day after Bangladesh fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman collapsed on the ground during the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka, the 28-year-old pacer left for India to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Mustafizur gave an update through a post on his official X handle, much to the delight of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans. The defending champions CSK bought Mustafizur in the mini-auction in December last year at his base price of Rs 2 crore.

"Excited and Looking forward to my new assignment. Heading to Chennai for IPL 2024. Keep me in your prayers so that I can deliver my best," Mustafizur wrote on X.

What happened to Mustafizur Rahman?

During the 3rd ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka on March 18, Mustafizur suffered from severe cramps before being stretchered off the ground. The hot and humid conditions in Chattogram adversely affected the Bangladesh pacer, who failed to complete his full quote of 10 overs. He was taken off the field on a stretcher during the 48th over of Sri Lanka's innings. Mustafizur bowled nine overs in the match and bagged two wickets before suffering from cramps.

The left-arm pacer, who boasts deceptive variations in his arsenal, is slated to play a significant role for the Super Kings franchise in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich tournament.

Mustafizur Rahman's IPL career

Chennai Super Kings will be the fifth franchise that Mustafizur will represent in the IPL. The left-arm seamer began his IPL career with the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2016 and in his maiden campaign, he helped the team win the IPL title. From there on, The Bangladesh pacer went on to play for the Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and the Delhi Capitals.

Overall, Mustafizur has played 48 matches in the IPL, picking 47 wickets at an economy rate of 7.93. His most prolific campaign in the IPL came in 2016 when he bagged 17 wickets in 16 matches for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
