Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain KL Rahul provided a massive update on fast bowler Mayank Yadav's fitness after the franchise suffered defeat against the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) match on April 12 (Friday). Rahul revealed that the tearaway pacer is itching to return to the field but the franchise is being cautious with the 21-year-old right-arm pacer. The LSG skipper affirmed that Mayank might miss a couple of more matches.
"Mayank Yadav is not too bad, he looks good, feeling good but we also want to make sure we don't rush him back in too early. He's young, we need to protect his body. He's itching to go, we just have to pull him back a little, maybe a couple of more games, before he comes back," Rahul told the broadcasters after the game, as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.
Mayank battling hip tightness
Mayank Yadav became the cynosure of all eyes after making his debut in the ongoing edition of the cash-rich tournament. With his raw pace and control, Mayank made opposition batters uncomfortable at the crease. In the game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Mayank clocked the highest speed by a bowler this season when he touched 156.7 kmph.
In the game against the Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 7, Mayank walked off the field after bowling just one hour. The Super Giants franchise and cricket fans, in general, would hope that the 21-year-old shakes off his latest injury setback quickly and returns to action.
LSG lose at home against DC
Meanwhile, the Super Giants suffered a six-wicket loss against DC at the Ekana Stadium on Friday. After posting a score of 167/7 on the board, KL Rahul's brigade failed to defend the total as Rishabh Pant's team chased the target with 11 balls to spare.
After the win, the Capitals improved to two wins in six matches and brought an end to a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Super Giants lost their second game of the season after playing five matches.
