Former Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma joined an elite list with the likes of Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina, and Kieron Pollard after Hardik Pandya-led MI defeated Rishabh Pant's Delhi Capitals by 29 runs at the Wankhede Stadium, on April 7 (Sunday). This is also the first victory for Mumbai in the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Rohit Sharma joins elite list
Rohit Sharma has now become the fourth player in the history of the Indian Premier League to take 100 catches as a fielder. The list is led by Virat Kohli (110 catches), followed by Suresh Raina with 109 catches, and after him is Rohit Sharma's former MI teammate Kieron Pollard with 103 catches.
The former MI skipper reached this milestone on the final ball of the match after he took Jhye Richardson's catch on Gerald Coetzee's delivery.
Rohit also had a good outing with bat but he missed his half-century by just 1 run. However, he ensured that his team received a blazing start against Delhi Capitals in the powerplay that even set the base for their huge total of 234 runs.
Mumbai win their first match of IPL 2024
Hardik Pandya has won his first IPL 2024 match as the new MI skipper. Now, the star all-rounder would try to add a couple more wins going ahead in the tournament and move up on the points table. Romario Shepherd turned out to be a hero for Mumbai Indians in the clash against Delhi Capitals. As he smashed 32 runs in the final over against Anrich Nortje and provided his team with a match-winning push.
Shepherd played a 39-run knock in just 10 balls and became the star that MI needed to end their three-match losing streak in the tournament. Now Mumbai will be competing against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the same venue, on April 11.
