Delhi Capitals (DC) have improved in the IPL 2024's points table following their stunning win over Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 24. Rishabh Pant-led DC edged out GT in a nail-biting encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, securing their fourth win of the IPL 2024. The match was a true run-fest, with both sides putting up impressive scores. DC captain Rishabh Pant led the charge for his team with a blistering unbeaten knock of 88 runs off just 43 balls. He found excellent support from Axar Patel, who smashed a quickfire 66 runs off 43 deliveries. This dominant batting display propelled Delhi to a formidable total of 224 runs for the loss of only four wickets.
Despite valiant fifties from B Sai Sudharsan (65 runs) and David Miller (55 runs), the Gujarat Titans fell short in their chase. However, Rashid Khan kept GT's hopes alive with a late cameo of 21 runs off just 11 balls. With 19 runs required in the final over, Rashid started with a bang, hitting two boundaries and a six off the first four balls. This left DC needing just 3 runs from the last ball. The tension was palpable as Rashid attempted a big shot, but the ball was well-fielded by DC, securing a narrow victory for the Delhi Capitals.
DC leapfrog GT in IPL 2024's points table
DC's thrilling victory has propelled them to sixth place in the IPL 2024's points table with four wins in just five matches. They even managed to leapfrog the Gujarat Titans, who despite having the same number of points (8), fall behind due to a lower net run rate.
This win is crucial for the Capitals' playoff aspirations. Their next challenge comes against a struggling Mumbai Indians team, currently sitting in eighth place with only three wins under their belt.
Meanwhile, the action continues on April 25 with the third-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) locking horns with bottom-placed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The latter will be desperate to break their six-match losing streak and salvage their campaign.
