BCCI are currently holding a meeting with IPL franchise owners amid the IPL auction.

Indian Premier League (IPL) defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) owner  Shah Rukh Khan was reportedly engaged in a heated argument with Punjab Kings co-owner Ness Wadia over the player retention rule for the upcoming season of the tournament. All the franchise owners are currently in a meeting with the Board of Control for Cricket in India ahead of the upcoming mega auction of the cash-rich league which will take place later this year.

KKR will look to defend their title in the upcoming season. however, they are still looking for their new head coach because Gautam Gambhir has left the franchise after he was appointed as India's head coach. Earlier, there was a rule that a franchise can retain four players but KKR owner and Bollywood superstar was in favour of major retentions.

"According to a top BCCI source who was part of the meeting, Shah Rukh was fiercely making the case against mega auctions. At one stage, the KKR owner was also believed to be engaged in a heated argument with Ness Wadia, the co-owner of Punjab Kings, over number of retentions; Shah Rukh was in favour of major retentions while Wadia is believed to be against too many of them" quoted cricbuzz.

The impact player rule will also be discussed

Apart from this the other topic will be Impact Player rule as the cricketing experts are favor of this rule.

“Yes, the good all-rounders – Axar, Jadeja and others – continued to find a way in the XI but more options meant someone like Washington Sundar hardly played in 2024. So overall development of players like Washington Sundar was certainly impacted but at the same time, coaches had more options to play with.

Like beefing up batting or strengthening bowling as per the game requirement. Whatever was happening, the spectators and viewers weren’t complaining because the match wasn’t over even when it was 50/4 or 200/3,” a franchise official told CricketNext.

In the ongoing meeting, the cricketing board will take everyone's review and the board will announce their final call on August later this year.
