Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins blamed batters for the comprehensive loss to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Qualifier 1 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. SRH suffered a top-order collapse and run out of half-centurion Rahul Tripathi did not help their cause either. They lost nine wickets for 126 in 16 overs. Cummins' 24-ball 30 helped them post a respectable total of 159 which was chased down by KKR in 13.4 overs.
“Yeah we will try to put this behind quickly, good thing we will have a crack at it (second qualifier). You have those days in T20 cricket where things doesn't quite work out. We weren't where we wanted with the bat and obviously couldn't do much with the ball,” Cummins said in the post-match presentation.
Cummins also said that having the extra batter as their impact player was necessary. However, Sanvir failed to make an impact and got bowled for a golden duck by Sunil Narine.
“Felt that extra batting was important (picking the impact sub) on this wicket. Thought KKR bowled really well, there was a little bit in it early on and the surface got better,” the Australian all-rounder said.
SRH will now go up against the winner of the IPL 2024 eliminator between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Cummins feels that playing in Chennai will help them.
“We all have played enough cricket, and going to a new venue (Chennai) helps us as well, so we gotta keep this behind and move on,’ he concluded.

Cummins struggles with ball
The Australian pacer was expensive with the ball. He conceded 16 runs in his first over excluding the four leg byes. He managed to get the wicket of Sunil Narine in his second over but in the middle overs SRH bowlers were taken to the cleaners by Shreyas Iyer and Venkatesh Iyer. He conceded 38 runs from three overs.
