Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Sam Curran won the toss and opted to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala. Curran made one big change in the side as he decided to drop frontline pacer Kagiso Rabada for Liam Livingstone.
“Going to bowl. Looks like they've watered the wicket a bit, might be something early on. Looking to put RCB under pressure early. With the side we've picked today, looking to take wickets with the new ball. Pretty simple for us now - need few results to go for us and win our remaining games. Livingstone comes in for Rabada. Our strength is our batting,” Curran said after winning the toss.
RCB skipper Faf du Plessis also wanted to bat first. He made a change in the overseas department as well. He dropped an out-of-form Glenn Maxwell to include New Zealand pacer Lockie Ferguson.
“Would've done the same. Been a great turnaround for us. Last few games we've been clinical. Focus remains the same, not too much on the table, just the way we want to play. Maxwell out for Lockie Ferguson,” Du Plessis said at the coin toss.
The team losing the match will be knocked out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoff race.
Head-to-head
RCB and PBKS have gone up against 32 matches in the IPL. RCB have registered 15 wins whereas Punjab have won 17 times.
