Legendary India batter Sunil Gavaskar has been a fan of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni. In the previous edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Gavaskar got his shirt signed by Dhoni during CSK's last home game before they headed for knockouts.
Like a fanboy, Gavaskar approached Dhoni who was doing a lap of honour. He asked the wicketkeeper-batter to sign his shirt and Dhoni obliged. Later, he flaunted the signature in the post-match discussion on Star Sports. Dhoni had a huge smile on his face as Gavaskar is one of the best batters the country has produced.
"Ever since I saw MSD playing for the first time, I have been his fan. And what does a fan want? The fan wants to meet his hero and chat with him, try to get his autograph, a photograph as well. The whole team was taking a round around the stadium (Chepauk) because they had to go somewhere else for the knockout games, so I thought this was a good time to take his autograph, because I admire him a lot," Gavaskar said about MS Dhoni on Star Sports.
"I admire his cricket, his attitude, his behavior. There is a responsibility on you when you are a role model to conduct yourself well with everyone and be a good role model. And he is a very good role model. And the way he conduct himself with grace, it made me go to him and request him, and I am very happy that he agreed to sign on my shirt. My shirt is still proudly kept in my house," he added.
CSK's first season
Dhoni has been gearing up for the 17th edition of IPL. He will be seen in action when the defending champions CSK take on Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season opener on March 22 at their homeground.
Dhoni's chance to surpass ABD
Dhoni has a chance to surpass IPL legend AB de Villiers on the list of leading run-scorers. He has 5,082 runs from 250 matches and needs 83 more runs to leave De Villiers behind. He will become the sixth-highest run-scorer on the list.
