Royal Challengers Bangalore's (RCB) superstar batter Virat Kohli scripted history on Sunday, May 12, by becoming the only player to play 250 IPL matches for a single team. He achieved this feat during RCB's IPL 2024 clash against DC. He also became only the fourth player in IPL history to play 250 matches.
Joining the elite company of MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, and Dinesh Karthik, Kohli's dedication to his franchise is undeniable. Currently leading the IPL 2024 run-scorers' chart with a staggering 661 runs at a phenomenal strike rate of 155, he's in red-hot form. This achievement further cements his legacy as an RCB legend.
Notably, there is significant gap between Kohli and the next player on the ‘most matches for a single team’ list. MS Dhoni, with 233 games for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and potentially playing his final season, falls short by a considerable margin.

Talking about the match, RCB while batting first got off to a good start with Virat Kohli belted DC bowlers left, right and centre. However, the visitors fought back with early wickets, including Faf du Plessis dismissed by Mukesh Kumar and Kohli himself caught by his friend Ishant Sharma.
What followed was a period of dropped catches by the Capitals, allowing Will Jacks and Rajat Patidar to capitalize and build a crucial 88-run partnership. DC's fielding woes were evident with a staggering four dropped catches. Despite the promising partnership, the momentum shifted dramatically. RCB's batting collapsed in the final stages, losing a staggering 7 wickets for just 63 runs in the last 46 deliveries. However, Rajat Patidar's blistering 52 off 32 saw RCB posting a challenging total of 187/9. In reply, DC, who were without the services of their regular captain Rishabh Pant, were folded for mere 140 runs despite Axar Patel's half century.
