'A break for a month or two will do him a lot of good': Wasim Jaffer on Kohli's underwhelming show in IPL 2022

Former India and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Virat Kohli has not been at his usual best in the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He only has 119 runs this time around and has been dismissed for Golden Ducks in RCB's last two matches, raising questions about his fatigue.

Many cricket pundits have suggested that Kohli should take a break from the sport for a while. Among them is former India batter Wasim Jaffer, who believes it's disheartening to see Kohli in such disarray. Jaffer feels that the 33-year-old has terrific intensity during his practice sessions which might be affecting his match performances. He also advised Kohli to take a break to rejuvenate himself and return relaxed.

“It has to do more with the mind. It’s disheartening to see Virat Kohli like that because we know how big a player he is. For us, to see him fail again and again. Because of the intensity during his practice session in the nets, it’s very sad to see. I sometimes feel, if I could advise him would be to take a break for a month or two months break, which will do him a lot of good.

"A break is better than practicing more in the nets at this time. He will have a fresh perspective. He himself does not have the habit to fail for this many times,” Jaffer said on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.

Another former Indian cricketer who has advised Kohli to take a break from the sport is Mohammad Azharuddin. The 59-year-old is of the opinion that a break will help freshen Kohli's mind and additionally also help improve his foot movements while batting, “When you are not scoring well, you always have the pressure to score runs in the next match and so on. But, when you take the break of 2-3 matches, your mind is fresh and you sit and enjoy with the team.

"Virat is too good a player, and no one can doubt his abilities. But, his foot never went forward and if you stay at the crease when the ball is swinging, you are found wanting,” Azharuddin added.
