Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were reduced to a mere 68 runs before losing all their wickets in their Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Saturday, April 23. They were rattled by the SRH bowlers, especially Marco Jansen and T Natarajan, who picked up three wickets each.
Jansen dismissed fellow countryman Faf du Plessis, as well as Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli, with Kohli losing his wicket for a Golden Duck for a second consecutive match. It took the Sunrisers 16.1 overs to end the RCB innings, with only Glenn Maxwell (11-ball 12) and Suyash Prabhudessai (20-ball 15) touching double digits for SRH. The in-form Dinesh Karthik was also removed for a duck by J Suchith.
This is the second-lowest score that RCB have been dismissed for during their 15-year history in the IPL. Ironically, their lowest-ever score of 49 runs, which came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), was also played on April 23, but back in 2017, exactly five years to the day.
In that match, RCB were batting second and chasing a total of 131 runs. That match also saw Kohli dismissed for yet another Golden Duck, this time off the bowling of Nathan Coulter-Nile. The Australian bowler went on to pick up the wickets of the dangerous AB de Villiers as well as Kedar Jadhav, and not a single RCB player managed to touch 10 runs for Bangalore. Chris Woakes and Colin de Grandhomme also bagged three wickets as RCB were cleaned up by the KKR bowlers.
Their score of 49 still stands as the lowest in the IPL. Meanwhile, their 68 against SRH is now the fifth-lowest since the inception of the IPL back in 2008.
