Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have signed South Africa pacer Sisanda Magala as replacement for injured Kyle Jamieson for upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL). The 32-year-old pacer recently made headlines in inaugural season of SA20 League where he ended up as highest wicket-taker for winners Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Jamieson injured his back and has been ruled out of action as he will undergo surgery. Jamieson was snapped up by CSK for his base price of Rs 1 crore in the auction. On the other hand, Magala will join CSK at his base price of Rs 50 lakh.

Magala made his T20I debut for South Africa against Pakistan in 2021. He played just four T20Is that year and has not featured in South Africa's T20I playing XI since. He has just three wickets from four T20Is at an average of 46 and an economy rate of 9.85 runs per over.

Overall, the 32-year-old has played 127 T20s (T20Is, franchise cricket, domestic T20s). He has 136 wickets at an average of 23.95 including two fifers. In the SA20 League, he picked up 14 wickets at an average of 24. However, his economy rate was at 8.68 runs per over.

MS Dhoni-led CSK will play their first game against defending champions Gujarat Titans (GT) in the tournament opener on March 31. CSK had a torrid IPL 2022 season as they finished ninth on the points table with just four wins from 14 games. Ravindra Jadeja was initially named captain of the side but Dhoni took over after a series of losses.

In the IPL auction, CSK spent big on England all-rounder Ben Stokes as they roped his services for a whopping Rs 16.25 crore. They had retained most of their core before the auction and did not spend big after getting Stokes.

CSK updated full squad for IPL 2023: MS Dhoni (c), Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ambati Rayudu, Subhranshu Senapati, Moeen Ali, Shivam Dube, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Dwaine Pretorius, Mitchell Santner, Ravindra Jadeja, Tushar Deshpande, Mukesh Chowdhary, Matheesha Pathirana, Simarjeet Singh, Deepak Chahar, Prashant Solanki, Maheesh Theekshana, Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes, Shaik Rasheed, Nishant Sindhu, Ajay Mandal, Bhagath Varma, Sisanda Magala
