Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna made a memorable debut for Rajasthan Royals (RR) with a match-winning spell with the new ball which finished Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) chances in the powerplay overs itself. After Royals’ big win in their first game of the season, Krishna revealed that it was his teammate Jos Buttler’s advice that helped him dominate SRH’s top-order batters.
“There was some good bounce and seam. Hitting those hard lengths was helping me. We were speaking outside when Jos got out. He said it was tough to hit off good lengths. Tried to hit those areas,” Krishna said in the post-match presentation.
“It's usually the captain thinking from the team's perspective, and the bowler thinking about how he's feeling and what he can impact for the team. We get together and speak about the decision,” he further added.
The former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bowler got the prized wicket of SRH skipper Kane Williamson with a back of the length delivery in his first over. He was consistent with his lengths and in the next over got Rahul Tripathi out for a three-ball duck. He kept the pressure on Nicholas Pooran as well with five consecutive dot balls. In the next over, Boult trapped the wicketkeeper-batter in front of the stumps sending him back to the dressing room for a nine-ball duck and reducing SRH for 9/3 in the fifth over.
“Boulty bowled really well, the pressure he put helped me pick up a couple of wickets. Had a couple of practice games. Everybody's had a good hit, had a good bowl,” Krishna lauded his new-ball bowling partner.
Krishna bowled the last over of the powerplay overs as well and gave just a single. After the completion of six overs, SRH’s score read 14/3 which is the joint-lowest in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. In his first three overs, the 26-year-old conceded just two runs. However, he went for 14 runs in his last over when Sanju Samson asked him to bowl at death.
Krishna was roped in by KKR for a whopping Rs 10 crore after an intense bidding war with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). He has been in good form of late on the international stage as well.
