'I don’t remember seeing Dhoni lose too many games like that': Michael Vaughan slams Jadeja's captaincy

The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been seen struggling so far in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The team is going through a massive transition as Ravindra Jadeja was given the task to spearhead the Chennai-based side after MS Dhoni decided to step down from CSK captaincy. However, for some reason the change in leadership role is not yielding much to the side as they have lost five out of six matches so far in the IPL 2022.

The CSK's fallout has put Jadeja under scanner and this has also grabbed former England captain Michael Vaughan's attention as he has raised questions over the all-rounder's captaincy. Vaughan feels that CSK did not lose so many games from a winning position under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

“As a new captain, you want to win tight games. Honestly, it wasn’t a tight game and they lost it. They should have easily won that game by 10 or 15 runs and I can only imagine what would happen now. I don’t remember seeing MS Dhoni lose too many games like that. You are never used to seeing MS’ side lose a tight game and wouldn’t have even let it get to be in tight,” Vaughan told Cricbuzz.

Jadeja-led side failed to defend 170 against Gujarat Titans on Sunday. The big-hitting David Miller blazed away to a 51-ball 94 as Gujarat Titans pulled off an incredible come-from-behind three-wicket win.

CSK started off well and picked four early wickets, reducing GT to 48/4 in eight overs, they could not maintain the consistency throughout and poor on-field decisions handed them the fifth defeat of the season. However, Ruturaj Gaikwad finally found form with a 48-ball 73 before Gujarat Titans pulled things back to stop Chennai Super Kings at 169 for five.

“You could see then that he was maneuvering himself into the captain’s role, maneuvering fielders, which is fine. I think Ravindra Jadeja would want that from MS Dhoni behind the stumps. But when you’re at your infantry stages as a captain, you want to win the games you were in control of,” Vaughan further added.
