Chennai Super Kings (CSK) lost a match which from a position where they could have won by a considerable margin and improved their net run rate (NRR). Like most CSK players, Ravindra Jadeja was stunned by the three-wicket loss. After the match, Jadeja criticised his team’s bowling in the last five overs where they leaked 62 runs. The skipper also shared that he did not expect Chris Jordan to go for big runs in the end.
“The ball was gripping, but we didn't execute our plans in the last 5 overs. I thought CJ could execute his yorkers, but he couldn't do so. That's the beauty of T20 cricket,” the southpaw said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Jordan conceded 25 runs from the 18th over as Gujarat Titans (GT) stand-in skipper Rashid Khan took him to the cleaners. Despite going for 45 runs in his first three overs, the English fast bowler was given the opportunity to bowl the last over where GT required 13 runs to win with David Miller on strike. In the end, he went for 58 runs in 3.5 overs.
Another option he had was Mukesh Choudhary, who had conceded 18 runs from his three overs and got the wicket of Shubman Gill for a golden duck.
It will be interesting to see whether Jordan gets included in the side in CSK’s next game against Mumbai Indians on April 21. In his place, CSK may look to include Kiwi pacer Adam Milne. Their pace attack has already taken a hit with Deepak Chahar getting ruled out of the tournament due to injury.
In the clash against GT, Jadeja was impressive with the bat scoring 22 runs from just 12 deliveries including a couple of sixes. With the ball, he got the wicket of GT wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha.
With an unlikely loss to Titans, CSK are placed ninth on the points of the table with just one win from six games and a disappointing NRR of -0.638.
