The 15th season of the Indian Premier League 2022 is expected to begin by the end of March and for the upcoming edition, the mega IPL 2022 auction is scheduled to be held in Bangalore on February 12 and February 13. This time with the advent of two new teams (Ahmedabad and Lucknow), ten franchises are going to vie for the prestigious IPL title.
This time the auction is also going to be grand and special as apart from some core players, almost all the big names in the game of cricketer will be a part of the mega auction.
This means that after this auction, the teams of IPL will be seen in a completely different way and comprised with different sets of players.
Expensive cricketers
And invariably, just like previous editions, this time too the biggest question about the auction seems to be which player will be the most expensive one. The answer can only be known on February 13 but before that one thing can surely be discussed and that is- who have been the top ten expensive players in IPL history so far and it will also be discussed that how many Indian cricketers are included in them.
Chris Morris
South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris is recorded as the most expensive player in the history of IPL. He was roped in by Rajasthan Royals in the 2021 auction at a price of Rs 16.25 crore.
Yuvraj Singh
The former World Cup-winning India all-rounde Yuvraj Singh is at second spot in the list. In the year 2015, Delhi Daredevils made a big buy after spending a huge amount of 16 crore for Yuvraj.
Pat Cummins
Current Australia Test skipper Pat Cummins was roped in by Kolkata Knight Riders in the year 2020 for Rs 15.5 crore. His transaction turns out to be the third-most expensive transaction in the history of IPL so far.
Kyle Jamieson
New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson was trusted by Royal Challengers (RCB) captain Virat Kohli in the year 2021. RCB had spent Rs 15 crore to get the Kiwi fast bowler in their team.
Gautam Gambhir
In the year 2011, Kolkata Knight Riders had roped in Gautam Gambhir, the former opening batsman of the Indian team, for Rs 14.9 crore. KKR even went on to win two titles under Gambhir's captaincy. The left-handed batter finds himself in top five in the list of most expensive cricketers in the history of IPL.
Ben Stokes
The England all-rounder Ben Stokes was signed by Rising Pune Supergiants (now defunct) in the year 2017 for a price of 14.5 crore.
Glenn Maxwell
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was added to the squad by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2021 auction by paying Rs 14.25 crore.
Jhye Richardson
This Australian pacer was roped in by Punjab Kings in the 2021 auction for Rs 14 crore.
Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj finds his name in the list for the second time as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had added Yuvraj Singh to their squad in the year 2014. The left-handed all-rounder was signed for a price of Rs 14 crore.
Ben Stokes
Just like Yuvraj, this English all-rounder finds his name twice in the list of most expensive top ten players. He was paid an amount of Rs 12.5 crore by Rajasthan Royals back in 2018.
