Punjab Kings (PBKS) suffered a six-wicket defeats at the hands of Mumbai Indians (MI) in 46th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the IS Bindra stadium in Mohali on Wednesday (May 3). IPL 2023 is halfway down, and the glitzy tournament has already seen 26 200-plus totals being posted. The sixteenth edition of the IPL has seen the most 200-plus totals in a season of the tournament, comfortably surpassing the tally of 18 such totals seen in the entire 2022 edition.
Riding on Liam Livingstone's blistering 82 off 42, Punjab posted a huge total of 214/3. In reply, the dazzling duo of Ishan Kishan (75 off 41) and Suryakumar Yadav (66 off 31) cracked whip with the bat to chase down the target with seven balls to spare.
In a match, which saw 430 runs being scored in total, almost every bowler fell prey to batters' blitzkrieg, but Arshdeep Singh trumped all to register an embarrassing all time IPL record. Arshdeep, who hadn't leaked more than 50 runs for once in IPL, conceded 66 runs in 3.5 overs in the match against MI. With this he became the bowler to leak most runs without his full quota of four overs in a T20 match.
The second bowler in the unwanted list is Ben Wheeler who conceded 64 runs in 3.1 overs. Meanwhile, Tom Curran, Pat Brown, and Alex Diziga leaked 63 runs without completing their four-over quota.
Not just this, Arshdeep also bowled the fifth most expensive spell in an IPL innings. Notably, Sunrisers Hyderabad's Basil Thampi dominates the list as he once leaked 70 runs in his quota of four overs in IPL 2018. After the loss Punjab are now placed seventh in the points table with 10 points while the five-time champions MI are a notch ahead of PBKS on sixth with as many points but with better net run rate.
