The Indian Premier League (IPL) have not only given a platform to some of the best bowlers in the world but also helped bring to light some bowlers who would end up as giant killers.
Over the years, many players have made their name in the IPL. But winning the Purple Cap is an achievement that only a few bowlers can boast about. Some of these players without a Purple Cap include — Jasprit Bumrah, Ravindra Jadeja and Sunil Narine — among others.
With the 16th edition of the tournament touching base in India on March 31, we look at the 15 Purple Cap winners over the years.
IPL 2008: Sohail Tanvir, who played for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2008, took 22 wickets in 11 matches to win the Purple Cap.
IPL 2009: Deccan Chargers fast bowler RP Singh took 23 wickets in 16 matches and was the highest wicket-taker.
IPL 2010: Left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha of the erstwhile Deccan Chargers took 21 wickets in 16 matches to win the Purple Cap.
IPL 2011: Lasith Malinga, who played for the Mumbai Indians (MI), took 28 wickets in 16 matches.
IPL 2012: Delhi Daredevils' Morne Morkel won the Purple Cap in 2012 with 25 wickets in 16 matches.
IPL 2013: Dwayne Bravo of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) adorned the Purple Cap with 32 wickets in 18 matches.
IPL 2014: Again a Super Kings player won the Purple Cap, and this time it was fast bowler Mohit Sharma with 23 wickets in 16 matches.
IPL 2015: CSK made a hat-trick of their players getting the Purple Cap. Dwayne Bravo took 26 wickets in 17 matches. He became the first bowler to win the Purple Cap for a second time.
IPL 2016: Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar won the Purple Cap with 23 wickets in 17 matches.
IPL 2017: Bhuvneshwar became the first bowler to retain the Purple Cap with 26 wickets in 14 matches.
IPL 2018: Andrew Tye of Kings XI Punjab won the Purple Cap in 2018 with 24 wickets in 14 matches.
IPL 2019: Chennai Super Kings leg-spinner Imran Tahir took 26 wickets in 17 matches to secure the Purple Cap.
IPL 2020: Delhi Capitals and South Africa pacer Kagiso Rabada was the Purple Cap recipient with 30 wickets in 17 matches.
IPL 2021: the Purple Cap was Harshal Patel of Royal Challengers Bangalore after his 32 wickets in 15 matches.
IPL 2022: Rajasthan Royals leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took 27 wickets in 17 matches to win his first Purple Cap.
