David Warner has scored 306 runs for Delhi Capitals (DC) this season and is their highest run-getter as well. He has been one of the top batters in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 and has also smashed four half-centuries in the seven games that he has played this season.
Hence, it is very surprising that the star Australian batter, who holds the record for winning the Orange Cap three times this season — in 2015, 2017 and 2019 — does not want to win the coveted prize a fourth time!
The reason for the same is that according to the 2016 IPL winner, the winner of the Orange Cap has not won the IPL, a fact that is almost true.
"I have worked out that if you win the Orange Cap then you don't win the title! This is why I would rather like to win the title than the Orange Cap," the former Australia skipper told Sports Tak in an exclusive interview after he was spotted with Evocus Black Alkaline water while training in Delhi.
Only once in 15 IPL seasons has the winner of the Orange Cap won the tournament, and it was as recently as 2021 when Ruturaj Gaikwad sealed the trophy for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Back then, the final fight was between CSK teammates Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad for the Orange Cap, as the fight went to the final match, which CSK won in the end against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
David Warner also led his team to victory over the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Sunday. After the game, the away side skipper David Warner, who won the prestigious trophy with SRH in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2016 season, led his team's celebrations alongside Sarfaraz Khan.
The duo were seen shouting the famous dialogue “how is the josh?” after their seven-run win over SRH on Monday. A video of the same was posted by the DC social media team.
He spoke about the same as well, "The Josh in the squad in High, it'is very good. The boys are pumped as well."
Meanwhile, the former IPL winner with SRH shared a special message for Rishabh Pant, who will be missing from action for the foreseeable future, and more. "The best tribute would be to win. It was great to see him up and about and walking. It was a really bad accident but our thoughts are with him. We are in contact with him all the time and we know he is going to come back stronger," the DC skipper concluded.
