Attack, attack and attack! Ishan Kishan walked in to open Mumbai Indians’ batting already in fifth gear. Kishan thrashed the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowlers all over the park getting to his half-century in just 16 balls. This is the joint third-fastest fifty by a batter in the history of IPL. Kishan also created a Mumbai Indians (MI) record registering the fastest half-century for the five-time title winners.

The record of fastest fifty in IPL belongs to KL Rahul. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper scored his half-century from just 14 balls against the Delhi franchise. Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) Yusuf Pathan and Sunil Narine are the joint second-fastest with their respective 15-ball half-centuries. The previous record for fastest fifty for MI belonged to Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard (17 balls) and Kishan as well.

The Mumbai wicketkeeper-batsman also had his sights on the fastest century by a Mumbai Indians player which belongs to Sanath Jayasuriya (45 balls). However, Kishan missed out on the golden chance getting out for a score of 84 from just 32 innings. The 23-year-old’s innings was laced with 11 fours and four sixes.

MI gave themselves a chance to get close to the 171-run win equation posting 85 runs for the loss of one wicket in first six overs which is their second-highest score in the powerplay overs. By the time powerplay overs came to an end, Kishan was already batting on 63.

This is Kishan’s second half-century on the trot. He got out to SRH’s express fast bowler Umran Malik in the 10th over of the innings.

The youngster was earlier dropped from the team after a string of ordinary performances. He was brought back into the side in the previous game where he scored his first half-century of the season. He is also a part of India’s T20 World Cup squad as a floater.
