'It was not even close, everyone in the ground saw that': Pant frustrated over umpire's call but says sending Amre wasn't right

The last over of clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) was full of drama. First, it was Rovman Powell hitting three sixes in a row. It was followed by an on-field call that frustrated Rishabh Pant.

Many in DC’s dugout were signaling above-waist high no ball but the on-field umpires thought otherwise. When the call was not made or referred to the third umpire, Pant asked his batters to walk off the field and sent bowling coach Pravin Amre to talk to the umpire, which led to a few minutes of delay in the proceedings.

After the match got over, Pant expressed his disappointment over the call but accepted that sending Amre into the field was not a good idea.

“I think they were bowling well throughout the game but in the end Powell gave us a chance, I thought that no-ball could have been precious for us but it is not in my control. Yes, disappointed but can't do much about it,” DC skipper said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“Everyone was frustrated (in the dugout) that it was not even close, everyone in the ground saw that, I think the third umpire should have interfered and said it was a no-ball. Obviously it wasn't right (sending Amre onto the field) but what happened with us is also not right, it happened in the heat of the moment. It was the fault from both sides and it is disappointing as we have seen some good umpiring in the tournament,” the wicketkeeper-batter added.

On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper did not want to make it a big issue as he said, “It was a full-toss and the batsman wanted a no-ball, but the umpire didn't give it.”

As a result, despite three consecutive sixes in the last over, DC lost the match by 15 runs. This is their fourth loss from seven matches. They are placed sixth on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 points table. A win at Wankhede Stadium helped Rajasthan Royals (RR) dethrone Gujarat Titans (GT) from the top of IPL standings. The Samson-led side has five wins from seven games.
