In his seventh game for Delhi Capitals (DC) in Indian Premier League (IPL) debut season, Rovman Powell made a mark with a sensational 36-run knock against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The knock could not get DC over the line, which was a herculean task to pull off for any batter from any era. However, Powell made Royals players nervous with three consecutive sixes when DC needed 36 runs in an over, before on-field controversy erupted over no-ball which was not called by the umpire. Looking back at the innings, Powell reveals that he was confident of hitting six sixes in an over against Obed McCoy.
"To be honest, I was pretty confident (at hitting six sixes in an over). After I got the first two, I was like what can happen from here, and then I got the next one. I was just hoping that it was a no-ball, but the umpire's decision is final, and we as cricketers take that and move on," Powell said in a statement released by the franchise.
On the other hand, Powell believes that he does not want to “dwell in the past”, referring to the no-ball controversy which led to assistant coach Pravin Amre getting banned for a match and Rishabh Pant, Shardul Thakur facing fines of 100 per cent and 50 per cent of their match fees respectively.
The destructive West Indies batter wants to focus on the next games as Capitals look to finish in top four. The Pant-led side are currently placed seventh on the points table with three wins from seven games.
"It is something we have to put behind us very fast. We have a lot of games coming up, and we have no time to dwell in the past. You know, we have to always look to the future because some important games are coming up. Important games for us to win to qualify for the next round of the competition. We have no time to sit and think about what happened in the past," the 28-year-old said.
The Jamaica-born batter has scored 67 runs from six innings so far which includes two ducks. The hard-hitting batter believes that he has got the confidence he needed to score big for Capitals.
"It felt good. I've been searching for that for the last few games, and it's finally good to see a few come out in the middle. It's just for me to take the confidence from that game leading up to the rest of the matches, and just transfer it to the next phase of the competition," he added.
DC take on Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on April 28 at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Powell is expected to get a chance in the middle order instead of getting pushed down after a whirlwind knock in the previous game.
