Watch: 10 years later, Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir get involved in ugly spat again to reignite old rivalry

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) outclassed Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in a low-scoring encounter. Throughout the game, Virat Kohli was at his usual self and tried to get the crowd involved. Kohli was animated when a wicket feel, when a player misfielded or even when Wanindu Hasaranga got hit for a six. After the win, he was high on adrenaline and during the customary handshake with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), the two Delhi-born batters reignited their decade-old rivalry.

At first, Kohli and Gambhir’s handshake looked a little agitated. Then LSG's Afghan recruit Naveen-ul-Haq exchanged a few words with Kohli during handshake. Kohli’s teammate Glenn Maxwell prevented it from escalating. In the run chase, Kohli and Naveen had an argument in the 17th over as well.

Kohli and Gambhir then involved in an ugly spat. The two exchanged a few words before Amit Mishra, LSG assistant coach Vijay Dahiya and other players intervened and stopped it in its tracks. As Kohli walked back, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, Maxwell and LSG all-rounder Marcus Stoinis were seen having a laugh about it.

A decade ago Kohli and Gambhir got involved in another ugly spat when the latter used to captain Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Before the fight was reignited, Kohli did the silence gesture after taking a stupendous catch to dismiss Ayush Badoni. After LSG's win at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium last month, Gambhir did the same gesture as well.

However, this is not the first time Naveen has been involved in a spat with a senior player. In Pakistan Super League (PSL), he had a heated exchange with Mohammad Amir. Later, former Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi also had a word with the Afghanistan bowler as well.

RCB won the game by 18 runs as an injured Rahul did not come out to bat till the penultimate over. Rahul pulled his hamstring in the second over of RCB's innings and did not come to field for the entire innings. Even when he came to bat, he could not score a single run from three balls.
