‘When you are dropped and stripped of captaincy without being given a reason, it hurts’: David Warner on getting dropped from SRH

Following Australia’s maiden T20 World Cup title win on November 14, star Australian opener, David Warner opened up on getting dropped from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Warner was dropped from the playing XI mid-season without being given any reason for that. The southpaw revealed how he felt after getting dropped all of a sudden.

"When you are dropped from the team you have loved the most for years without any real fault of yours and stripped of captaincy without being given a reason, it hurts," Warmer told Economic Times.

However, the left-handed batter believes that getting support from the Indian fans throughout the campaign inspired him to do well consistently.

"At the same time, there are no complaints. The fans in India have always been there for me and it is for them that you play. We play to entertain. We play to push for excellence," the Australian opener thanked his fans in India.

Furthermore, the 35-year-old revealed how hard he was working in the nets despite going through the setback of getting dropped.

"Whatever may have been the reason for me not finding a spot in an IPL team, I can tell you I was training the hardest I ever did. I didn’t miss a single day. I was batting extremely well in the nets and it was only a matter of time before it all started to work out. So yes, while it hurt, I knew I will have another opportunity," Warner revealed.

Despite an unimpressive run in IPL 2021 for SRH, the prolific opener came back strongly in the T20 World Cup by scoring 289 runs with an impressive average of 48.16 and a healthy strike rate of 146.70. For his brilliance throughout the season, Warner was adjudged the ‘Player of the Tournament'.
