From inaugural season to 2024 edition: Here are the winners of IPL so far
Indian Premier League 2025 is scheduled to start from March 22 where defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opening clash. Here's the tally of IPL winners so far.

Rajasthan Royals: 2008 IPL winners
The Indian Premier League inaugural season was played in 2008. Shane Warne-led Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings to win the first edition of the cash rich league.

Deccan Chargers: 2009
Rajasthan Royals failed to defend their IPL title in 2009, and the final of the tournament was played between Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Deccan Chargers won the clash by six runs

Chennai Super Kings: IPL 2010
MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings won their maiden Indian Premier League title in 2010 where they defeated Mumbai Indians in the final at DY Patil Stadium. CSK scored 168 runs for 5 wickets on the basis of Suresh Raina's unbeaten innings of 57 runs. In reply, Mumbai Indians managed to score 146 runs for 9 wickets and had to face defeat by 22 runs. Whereas under Dhoni's captaincy, Chennai tasted the trophy victory for the first time.

Chennai Super Kings in 2011
In the IPL history, the Chennai team did the miracle of defending the title for the first time in the year 2011. In the 2011 final against RCB, opening batsman Murali Vijay played a blistering innings of 95 runs in 52 balls with 4 fours and 6 sixes. Due to this, RCB team could score only 147 runs against the huge target of 206 runs and had to face defeat by 58 runs.

KKR: 2012
After winning the IPL title twice in a row, Dhoni's Chennai reached the final of IPL 2012 for the third time. But this time Kolkata Knight Riders under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir kept them away from the trophy. Batting first, Chennai scored 190 runs for 3 wickets with Suresh Raina's innings of 73 runs. In reply, KKR scored 192 runs for 5 wickets in 19.4 overs with the batting of Manvinder Bisla (89 runs) and Jacques Kallis (69 runs) and won the title of champion for the first time.

Chennai Super Kings made it to the finals for the fourth time in a row in IPL history. But this time Mumbai Indians levelled the score. Mumbai's team could score only 148 runs while playing first. But due to Lasith Malinga's tight bowling, Chennai lost by 23 runs. With this Mumbai avenged the defeat in IPL 2010.

In the 2014 season of IPL, Punjab Kings made it to the finals for the first time but KKR did not let their dream of winning the trophy come true. Punjab scored 199 runs in this match with the help of a century by Wriddhiman Saha (115 runs). In response, KKR eased the match with Manish Pandey's innings of 94 runs and made Gautam Gambhir-led KKR the champion for the second time.

In IPL 2016, Sunrisers Hyderabad led by David Warner faced RCB led by Virat Kohli in the final. Hyderabad scored 208 runs due to Warner's explosive innings of 69 runs. In response, apart from Chris Gayle (76) and Kohli (54), the other RCB batsmen could not do much, due to which RCB had to score only 200 runs and lose the IPL trophy by 8 runs.

In IPL 2017, Mumbai Indians led by Rohit Sharma defeated Rising Pune Warriors led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni to win the title. In this match, Mumbai scored 129 runs and eventually won a thrilling victory by one run.

After facing a two-year ban in IPL, Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings made a spectacular comeback and eased the chase of 179 runs in the final match with a stormy century by Shane Watson. Watson played a stormy innings of 117 runs in 57 balls with 11 fours and eight sixes against Hyderabad. Due to this, Chennai won the IPL trophy for the third time under Dhoni's captaincy.

After winning the 2018 IPL, Chennai Super Kings again made it to the finals of the 2019 season. This time too they faced Mumbai Indians. Mumbai scored 149 runs while playing first and restricted Chennai to 148 runs and won by one run, Mumbai captured the title for the fourth time under Rohit's captaincy.

Mumbai Indians faced Delhi Capitals in the final of IPL 2020. The team of Delhi Capitals, captained by Shreyas Iyer, batted first and scored 156 runs for 7 wickets. In response, Mumbai scored 157 runs for 5 wickets in 18.4 overs and Mumbai captured the title for the fifth time under Rohit's captaincy.

In the final match of IPL 2021 season, Chennai team faced KKR. This time Chennai, playing first, scored 192 runs for three wickets with the help of Faf du Plessis' innings of 86 runs. In response, KKR's batting did not work and their team could only score 165 runs for 9 wickets. Due to which Chennai, under the captaincy of Dhoni, won by 27 runs and captured the IPL title for the fourth time.

During IPL 2022, apart from the eight teams, two new teams were added in the form of Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. Gujarat, captained by Hardik Pandya, made a blast in the first season and Rajasthan team, playing first, could score only 130 runs. In response, Gujarat easily scored 133 runs for 3 wickets and achieved the target 11 balls earlier. Due to which the Gujarat team became the champion as soon as it entered the IPL field.

After the success of IPL 2022, Gujarat, captained by Hardik Pandya, faced Chennai Super Kings in the final of the 2023 season. Gujarat scored 214 runs for 4 wickets before the 96-run innings of young batsman Sai Sudarshan. After this, due to rain, Chennai was given a target of 171 runs in 15 overs. Chennai achieved this target and defeated Gujarat by 5 wickets and under the captaincy of Dhoni, the Chennai team also became the second team after Mumbai to win 5 IPL trophies.

In the IPL 2024 season, KKR, captained by Shreyas Iyer, won the IPL for the third time by defeating Hyderabad in the final. When KKR won under the mentorship of Gautam Gambhir, Gautam was later appointed the head coach of Team India.
