Rohit Sharma scripts history, becomes first ever batter to achieve this mighty milestone for Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians' superstar Rohit Sharma's continued his scorching form in the IPL 2025 with a half-century against Rajasthan Royals on May 1. The right-handed opener played a scintillating innings, scoring 53 runs off a mere 36 balls riding on nine fours at an an impressive strike rate of 147.22

Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton provided Mumbai Indians with an exceptional opening partnership, setting a strong foundation by adding 116 runs for the first wicket. Rickelton played a blistering innings, scoring 61 runs off only 38 balls which helped them post a colossal total of 217/2. In reply, RR were bundled out for just 117, suffering a 100-run defeat.

En route to his half-century against Rajasthan Royals Rohit Sharma achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first batsman to score 6000 runs for Mumbai Indians. The right-handed batsman has been an integral part of the MI franchise since the IPL 2011 mega-auction.

Rohit Sharma assumed the captaincy of the Mumbai Indians in 2013 and led the franchise to an impressive five IPL title victories before stepping down from the role. His successful tenure with MI also paved the way for him to become the vice-captain of Team India. In the IPL, Rohit has amassed 5751 runs for MI specifically in IPL while the rest of the runs he has scored in the now-defunct Champions League T20 tournament for the same franchise.

When considering the most runs scored for a single franchise in T20 cricket, Virat Kohli holds the top position. The Indian cricketing legend has amassed an impressive 8871 runs while representing Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Rohit Sharma occupies the second spot in this exclusive list. Following him is James Vince, who has scored 5934 runs for Hampshire. Suresh Raina, with a significant contribution of 5529 runs for Chennai Super Kings, sits in fourth place. Rounding out the top five is MS Dhoni, who has also scored prolifically for CSK, accumulating 5269 runs for the franchise.

Rohit Sharma's IPL career kicked off with Deccan Chargers, where he played from the inaugural season in 2008 until 2010. He was a key member of the Adam Gilchrist-led Deccan Chargers franchise that clinched the IPL title in 2009. In 2011, Rohit joined the Mumbai Indians and has been a consistent part of the franchise ever since, being retained by them over the years. Notably, Mumbai Indians made a significant decision prior to IPL 2024, removing Rohit from the captaincy and appointing Hardik Pandya, who returned to MI through a trade, as his successor.
