When Proteas all-rounder took 6-fer, scored fifty in T20 Blast
Before Andersson, former South Africa all-rounder Andrew Hall had achieved the feat of scoring a half-century and taking six wickets in a T20 Blast game. In the 2008 edition, he scored 66 runs from 51 balls for Northamptonshire against Worcestershire. Defending a total of 182/4, he claimed six wickets for 21 runs from 3.4 overs. Worcestershire were bowled out for 149 in 19.4 overs and lost the match by 33 runs.
Overall in T20 cricket history, Andersson is the sixth all-rounder to achieve the feat. Shakib Al Hasan, Ravi Bopara, JJ Smit and Venkatesh Iyer are other all-rounders to take six wickets and score a half-century in a T20 match.
Leicestershire post mammoth total
Earlier, Leicestershire skipper Ben Green won the toss and opted to field first. Aneurin Donald and Andersson shared a 78-run opening partnership from just 37 balls. In the seventh over, Donald was dismissed for a 24-ball 49. In the ninth over, Andersson reached his half-century from 22 deliveries. In the 11th over, he was dismissed by Ashton Turner for a 29-ball 57. In the middle overs, the tempo dropped. Ian Holland struck twice to get rid of Wayne Madsen and Ross Whiteley off consecutive deliveries.
Caleb Jewell and Matthew Montgomery went berserk in the last three overs. Jewell hit Ben Mike for three fours and a six in the 18th over, getting to his fifty from 31 balls. Montgomery departed for a 13-ball 27 cameo in the final over. Amit Basra arrived at the crease and hit Green for a four and a six to finish the innings, helping Derbyshire post 230/5.
Early wickets fall, Turner scores fifty, then Andersson’s magical spell
Leicestershire's run chase got off to a poor start. They lost three wickets for just six runs in two overs. Ben Cox and Turner tried to utilise the fielding restrictions. The hosts were 67/3 after powerplay overs. In the eighth over, Turner got to his half-century with a six, reaching the milestone from 20 deliveries. In the ninth over, Andersson was introduced into the attack and he delivered with wickets of set batters Turner and Cox. Turner departed for a 22-ball 53. Cox contributed with a 21-ball 34. Leicestershire lost half the side for 99.
In his next over, Andersson got the wicket of Liam Trevaskis. In his third over, Andersson got rid of Green as well. In the 15th over, he pulled off two caught and bowled dismissals to send Holland and Josh Hull back to the pavilion. One of them was a blinder on follow-through. On the second ball of the 16th over, Ben Mike got run out as Leicestershire were bowled out for 145 and lost the match by 85 runs.
29-year-old Andersson’s 6 for 23 is the best bowling figures by a Derbyshire bowler in T20 Blast history. The previous best belonged to Tom Lungley who took five wickets for 27 runs against Leicestershire on May 28, 2009.
