Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have retained their place at the bottom of the points table with three consecutive losses. As questions have been asked of CSK team management led by head coach Stephen Fleming and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, there is some ray of hope for the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions after all. 44-year-old MS Dhoni is set to undergo fitness test ahead of their next clash which is scheduled to take place at home on April 11.
As per a report by The Indian Express, Dhoni will undergo a fitness test in the next couple of days. If all goes well for the 44-year-old, he will take his place behind the stumps against Axar Patel's Delhi Capitals (DC) boosting the home team’s decision making and boosting the lower-order.
Earlier, Dhoni had batted in the nets before the Punjab Kings (PBKS) game at MA Chidambaram B ground. He hasn't shown any signs of discomfort but CSK don't want to risk naming him in the playing eleven before he recovers fully.
While Dhoni hasn’t been travelling with the squad, their South African recruit Dewald Brevis is undergoing training and facing throwdowns. Brevis had sustained a side strain during CSK’s pre-season camp. If the Proteas batter returns, it will provide more balance to their middle order which has looked vulnerable after openers’ repeated failures. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming gave an update on Brevis in the post-match press conference as well.
“We hope he is going to be right for the next game. We have five days between the next game. We have been conservative and hopefully, these next five days go as well as we have planned, and he is ready to go. It’s a big loss but we are looking forward to getting him back,” Fleming told the reporters after CSK’s 43-run loss at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
CSK vs DC head-to-head record
CSK have a good record over DC. From 31 games, they have won 19. However, in the previous season, they faced a defeat against DC.
