Meanwhile, to compensate the Williams' absence, the five-time IPL champions have acquired the services of South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch. The 30-year-old will join the MI squad for the IPL 2025, filling the gap left by the injured player.

The official announcement, made by the IPL governing body on Saturday, March 8, confirmed Corbin Bosch's inclusion in the Mumbai Indians roster. He will serve as a replacement for Lizaad Williams, who has been ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to a severe injury.

MI roped in the 31-year-old Lizaad Williams for a base price of Rs 75 lakh in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Talking about Williams' record, he has taken 3 wickets in 2 Test matches, 16 wickets in 7 ODIs, and 20 wickets in 15 T20Is respectively. Moreover, he boasts a total of 89 T20 appearances. Notably, he also featured in two matches for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the IPL 2024, where he picked one wicket. Unfortunately, due to a severe injury, Williams will be unable to participate in the upcoming IPL 2025 season. His absence paves the way for his fellow South African, Corbin Bosch, to step in as his replacement for the MI.

"Bosch, a bowling all-rounder, has represented South Africa (SA) in one Test and two ODIs and has played 86 T20s. The 30-year-old made his international debut in December and was also included in the Proteas’ 15-member squad for the Champions Trophy as a replacement for the injured Anrich Nortje. Yet to make his IPL debut, Bosch was previously part of the Rajasthan Royals as a net bowler and was signed by the franchise in 2022 as a replacement for Australia’s Nathan Coulter-Nile," IPL's media release read.

Meanwhile, the 30-year-old Corbin Bosch brings a blend of batting and bowling skills. His international experience includes one Test match and two One Day Internationals for the South African national team. In his Test appearance, he contributed 81 runs and secured 5 wickets, demonstrating his all-round capabilities. In the ODI format, he has scored 55 runs and taken 2 wickets.

Bosch has prior IPL experience, having been associated with the Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the 2022 season. He initially joined the team as a net bowler and was subsequently elevated to the main squad as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile.

"Mumbai Indians sign Corbin Bosch. South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch has been signed by Mumbai Indians as a replacement for Lizaad Williams, who has been ruled out of TATA IPL 2025 due to an injury," MI said in a post shared on X.

"Corbin was a part of the victorious Proteas' U-19 team that lifted the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2014, notably winning the Player of the Match in the final for a magnificent spell of 4/15. He has been a regular across formats for his domestic team and made his debut for Proteas in 2024.

"A right-handed middle-order batter and right-arm fast bowler, Corbin has played 86 T20s, having taken 59 wickets and has recorded a highest score of 81 with the bat. Mumbai Indians wish Lizaad a speedy recovery and extend a warm welcome to Corbin into the #OneFamily," MI's post read.
