Punjab Kings pacer Lockie Ferguson is virtually out for the rest of the 2025 Indian Premier League due to an injury sustained during the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Ferguson pulled up and was ejected from the field after bowling just two deliveries. Ferguson has recently struggled with ailments; at the ILT20, he had a hamstring injury that prevented him from winning the Champions Trophy.
PBKS coach Hopen on Ferguson
During the pre-game press conference, PBKS coach James Hopes confirmed the news, stating that the pacer is out indefinitely and that there is now little chance of his returning for the conclusion of the season.
"Lockie Ferguson is out indefinitely, and us getting him back for the end of the season is a very low percentage. I think he has done a real decent injury to himself," said Hopes.
In his four games, Ferguson has taken five wickets, and PBKS now lacks an obvious substitute for the New Zealand star. They may use Vysakh Vjiyakumar, who was one of their heroes in the first game, or Azmatullah Omarzai.
Hopes on Chahal
This year, Yuzvendra Chahal's form has been one of PBKS's worries. At an economy rate of more than 11, the spinner has only claimed two wickets in five games. Chahal will be crucial to their victory this season; thus, the bowling attack needs to get him into the game more, according to Hopes.
"With our bowling attack, we need to get Yuzi into the game more than we're doing, like, like he's just struggling to get into the game at the moment, like against Chennai just bowling the one over, a very good over at a very important time. He bowled a very good over, but it's just getting him into the tournament, we're 5 games in, and for us to win the IPL we're gonna need him," said Hopes.
